30 (+) Enchanting Pics of Winnipeg's Cool New Ice Castles Exhibit

Winters in Winnipeg may be cold, but they’re also pretty cool.

From river skating and Crokicurl to RAW:almond and Festival du Voyageur (not to mention the obligatory post-activity hot chocolate), there are plenty of excuses to bundle up, assemble the squad and experience the great outdoors. And if you’re on social media, chances are your timeline has been lit up by the latest winter phenomenon to hit the city.

Ice Castles opened Jan. 5 at The Forks, and it’s been getting a lot of foot (and sled) traffic, frigid temperatures be damned. Totaling 25 million pounds of ice and featuring arches as high as 50 feet, the exhibit boasts sculpted icicles, frozen thrones, spiraling towers, labyrinthine tunnels and bubbling fountains. Combined with music and a shimmering orchestra of multi-coloured lights, it makes for a truly magical (and totally Insta-worthy) outdoor experience – especially at night.
