Airbnb Names Winnipeg A Top Travel Destination For 2019

With a brand new year of bucket listing right around the corner, Airbnb just revealed their top travel destinations for 2019. For those of us living in Winnipeg, we can cross off at least one.

Based on “a combination of Airbnb search, booking and wish list growth data,” The Peg was named one of the company’s 19 destinations to visit in 2019.

Placed alongside some breathtaking spots in New Zealand, France, Mexico and Argentina, we’re in pretty good company. We’re also the only Canadian city to make the list.

“Among the largest cities in Canada, Winnipeg has no shortage of culture for residents and travelers, with historic The Forks’ warehouses transformed into shops and restaurants, and considerable outdoor space for summer festivals and concerts. And for those looking to have an unmatched and timely experience, head to the country’s ultra-modern Museum for Human Rights, the first of its kind dedicated entirely to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights.” – Airbnb

According to Airbnb, searches for Winnipeg have seen a 140% increase in year-over-year growth. A quick look at the site’s local listings shows 300+ available homes with over 28,000 guest reviews and an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars.

The prices range from $13/night for a private room to $1,520/night for Kilcona Oasis, a 5,000+ sq-ft. home featuring an indoor pool, a waterfall and a koi pond in the backyard.

While the Airbnb accolade is sure to boost tourism in Winnipeg, there has also been widespread praise for our province as a whole. Manitoba recently scored a spot on Lonely Planet’s 2019 Best in Travel list and won the Travel Lemming Judges’ Top Choice Award.
