Celebrate Manitoba's Secret Superfood during Potahto Week
You say potato, we say potahto.
Whatever you wanna call it, the humble starch is finally getting some well-deserved love this month. From Feb. 19-25, the Potahto Lovers of Manitoba (a group consisting of Peak of the Market, Manitoba potato growers, and Manitobans who simply love potatoes) are hosting the province’s first-ever Potahto Week.
So what exactly is Potahto Week?
For seven spud-tacular days, local restaurants will serve up exclusive tater-inspired dishes with a creative culinary twist. Like Le Burger Week, La Poutine Week and other culinary celebrations, foodies will be able to vote for their favourite entries online.
From takeout joints like Boon Burger and Nuburger to fine dining restaurants like Prairie 360 and 529 Wellington, more than 40 restaurants are taking part in the inaugural Potahto Week. Even Carbone is getting in on the fun, proving that potato most definitely belongs on pizza.
Not to be outdone, a few of our partner businesses are taking part in Potahto Week as well.
Little Bones is getting fresh with their Deep-Fried Pesto Potato Salad (Manitoba red skins mixed up with a creamy nutless pesto sauce, hard-boiled egg chunks, red onion, fresh parmesan and mozzarella, and rolled in a dilly panko and deep-fried to gold), while The Oakwood Cafe is serving up a garlic mustard mash with caramelized onion gravy and Cumberland sausage.
