Manyfest: Meet the winners of this year's Food Truck Wars
With Le Burger Week barely behind us, Winnipeggers were blessed with another celebration of our local food scene this weekend.
For the seventh straight year, Manyfest took over the streets of Downtown Winnipeg for three days of food trucks, beer gardens and local entertainment. As always, the highlight of the weekend was the festival’s Food Truck Wars.
Lining both sides of Memorial Boulevard (and part of Broadway), and serving up everything from dinner to dessert, more than 40 of the city’s top food trucks took part in this year’s event.
On Sunday evening, awards were handed out in four categories.
With milkshake masterpieces like the Nutzel, it’s no surprise that BDI won the prize for Best Presentation.
Best Bang For Your Buck went to The Churro Stop.
The Wiggle Chips concession stand scored the award for Most Original.
And finally, for the third consecutive year, the People’s Choice Award went to Kyu Grill. In addition to their legendary Heroshimas (grilled-skewered sandwiches served on sweet buns with Japanese-inspired sauces and toppings), Kyu introduced Mr. Hiro’s Sakura Burger. Needless to say, it didn’t hurt their chances.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year… food truck wars! 🍔🍕🌭🥓🍗🍟🌮🥗🌯🍣🍦 We thought we were all burger-ed out from leburger week, but we had to try @kyugrill’s Mr. Hiro’s Sakura Burger after it being in the top 5. And well.. now we know why its there 😜 if you like hiroshimas and like burgers, you’d love this one cos its all in one! 8/10! 🌸 • • • • • #burger #hiroshima #kyugrill #votekyugrill #manyfest #foodtruckwars #downtownwpgbiz #winnipeg #wpgeats #tastingwinnipeg #ywg #pegcitygrub #eatlocal #supportlocal #food #dessert #foodie #foodlover #foodporn #foodblog #foodblogger #buzzfeast #instafood
If you were unfortunate enough to miss out on Manyfest – or want to try some street food from this year’s winners – not to worry. The weather’s looking mighty fine, and there’s still at least a few weeks of food truck season left.
