Metallica sets new attendance record at Bell MTS Place

Apparently Winnipeg loves it some Metallica.

On Thursday, Sept. 13, the iconic metal group set a new attendance record at Bell MTS Place with a crowd of 17,129 people. The previous record — also held by Metallica — was 16,130, set back in 2009.

And as if Winnipeg needed another reason to love Metallica, the band also donated $10,000 to Winnipeg Harvest following their concert. The money came from Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation, which was created to “assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band for years, as well as encourage participation from fans and friends to help to make the world a better place.”

Last year, Bell MTS Place ranked 20th among the top 100 sports and entertainment arenas in North America, also taking the top Canadian spot, in a list released by Stadium Journey Magazine.
