The Peg Authentic Brand Has A New Home on Corydon
Over the past few years, The Peg Authentic Brand’s iconic Run DMC-inspired logo has become a common sight on the streets of Winnipeg. It’s about to become even more common.
Last week, the local streetwear and lifestyle company opened their flagship location at 807 Corydon Ave.
Founded in collaboration with Vancity Original Brand back in 2013, the streetwear and lifestyle company began as a way for Winnipeggers to identify with their city through fashion. The product line included a limited selection of hoodies, headwear, crews, tees and tanks.
Even when the company quickly caught fire (thanks in part to public endorsements from local celebs like Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler), it never had plans for a physical storefront. The products were strictly sold online, at pop-up shops and in a few local boutiques.
Owner Stephen Dubienski says the expansion to brick and mortar was a matter of demand, timing and opportunity. With no specific retail framework in place, the space on Corydon became available and he decided to go for it. Given the high foot traffic, the accessibility and the already-established retail community in place, he thought the location was a perfect fit.
The shop, like the brand itself, is simple, sleek and stylish. Just shy of 400 sq ft., it’s minimalistic and uncluttered without being cold or pretentious. A few scattered plants provide a bit of greenery and the walls will soon feature work from local artists and photographers.
In addition to the new space, The Peg is expanding their product line to include more options for toddlers and youth. They’re also rolling out an exclusive “W” line, which will only be available in-store.
