August 24-27 | Oddblock Comedy Festival
28 shows. 5 venues. 50 comedians. South Osborne’s Oddblock Comedy Festival is back for a third year, and it’s better than ever. A few of the notable acts include Nick Thune, Ron Lynch, Dulcé Sloan, Eliza Skinner, Scott Thompson of The Kids in the Hall fame and locals like Paul Rabliauskas and the always-popular Tyler Penner, who’s back with his epic Pizza Party at Vera.
August 25-27 | RibFest 2017
Ribs are just the beginning at The Rotary Club of Winnipeg’s free, family-friendly event at The Forks. BBQ champions from across the country will be serving up chicken, pulled pork and ribs alongside a killer selection of local food trucks. The event also features a ton of prizes, a Farmery beer garden and live music. Funds raised will go to CanU and the Newcomer Youth Educational Support Services Coalition.
August 25 | Movies in the Park | 7 p.m.
For the final time this summer, Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre will be screening an outdoor double header. For free! This week’s movies include Trolls (7 p.m.) and Star Wars: Rogue One (9:15 p.m.).
August 25 | Glitter by the River | 7 p.m.
In 2016, Andrew Henderson, a former Lower Fort Garry staff member and strong supporter of the Friends of Lower Fort Garry, passed away after a three-year struggle with cancer. To honour Andrew’s memory, the Friends of Lower Fort Garry have established a scholarship and are hosting a party to raise funds. The event will feature a few of Andrew’s favourite things, including champagne, dancing, a manicure bar and more. There will also be social favourites including a silent auction and 50/50 draw, and a uniquely Manitoban snack menu.
August 26 | Manitoba Filipino Street Festival | 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The morning parade will be followed by a full day of music, eats and entertainment on Broadway and Memorial. Head downtown, celebrate the vibrant heritage of the Philippines, try new foods and get cultured!
August 26 | Métis Harvest Celebration | 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Celebrate the end of summer at Riel House one last time before winter sets in. Chat with artisans doing historic demonstrations, participate in family activities, enjoy the main stage entertainment and fill up on bannock.
August 23-September 3 | Phantom of the Opera
Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is now playing at Centennial Concert Hall. There are evening shows all weekend and matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Get your tickets here.
