What's Up In WPG: August 4-6

August 4 | Movies in the Park | 7 p.m.

Every Friday in August, Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre will be showing summer blockbusters on a cinema-style outdoor screen. For free! This week’s double feature includes Sing (7 p.m.) and Oscar-nominated La La Land (9:15 p.m.).

August 4 | Alleyways Market in The Exchange | 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Get your shop on and support local at the summer’s third Alleyways Market in the Exchange District. Taking over the back lane at Elgin Avenue, more than 50 vendors will be serving up a winning mix of handmade goods, ready-to-eat snacks and fresh, locally produced food.

August 4 | Winnipeg Comedy Showcase | 9 p.m.

The Park Theatre is back with its 15th annual Winnipeg Comedy Showcase. As always, the lineup features the best comedians our city has to offer. This year’s bill includes Jordan Welwood, Benji Rothman, John B. Duff, Kate Schellenberg, Dan Goldberg, and Keener, along with host Jared Story. Advance tickets are $10 from The Park Theatre, Music Trader, online, or from the comics themselves.

August 5 and 6 | Eco Tours at The Forks | 1 p.m., 2 p.m., & 3 p.m.

Head to The Forks for a free, interactive and inspiring tour of their green initiatives. This one-hour walking tour, led by two actors, invites visitors to explore what The Forks has done to reduce their waste while encouraging visitors to think green and minimize their own carbon footprint.

August 6 | Folklorama

Canada’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival is back for its 47th celebration. Try delicious authentic food, explore vibrant arts scenes and learn traditional dance steps at 40+ pavilions. Buy single admission tickets for $6 or take a VIP tour and make a night of it. The festival runs until Aug. 19.

All weekend | Canada Summer Games

Thanks to the Games, the city’s been abuzz with tourists, sports and music – and we’re only about halfway through! Take in some events at the 20+ venues around town or head to The Forks and check out the food trucks, vendors and free entertainment. Some of the music highlights include Lanikai on Friday, The Mariachi Ghost on Saturday, and The Sheepdogs and Buffy Sainte-Marie on Sunday. With everything going on, you really can’t go wrong.

All weekend | A Maze In Corn | Open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

One of Winnipeg’s favourite summer traditions is back! Get lost in the ever-popular corn maze, take some selfies at the petting zoo, hop on a hay ride or pony ride or do some zip-lining. The forecast is looking 👌, so get outside and have some fun!
