September 22 | INSURGENCE/RESURGENCE | 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery hosts the opening of its largest-ever exhibition of contemporary Indigenous art Friday night. Taking over 10,000 square feet of the gallery – both indoor and outdoor space – the exhibition includes 12 commissioned works from artists across Canadian territories and nations. The event is free, and the exhibit runs until Spring 2018.

September 22 | Winnipeg Beer Choir: Round 1 | 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Singing loudly + Beer = Good Times. Come out for the first-ever Winnipeg Beer Choir at Fools + Horses on Broadway. Just download your free hymnal at www.beerchoir.com, show up and join in.

September 22-24 | WSO presents Arrival from Sweden: The Music of Abba

Get your Abba fill with Arrival, which has toured 56 nations, sold out 35 U.S. tours, and performed symphony shows with over 60 orchestras around the world. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Centennial Concert Hall.

September 22-30 | Thin Air: Winnipeg International Writers Festival 

Winnipeg’s annual writers festival kicks off Friday with a ton of free and paid events, including workshops, readings and keynotes. The opening ($10) is Friday night at Centre culturel franco-manitobain and features Armin Wiebe, Bill Richardson and Trish Cooper. Get more info online

September 23 | MBFOM Fall Sale | 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Hand-me-downs, here we come! MBFOM (The Manitoba Families of Multiples Association) is hosting their annual used clothing and toy sale at the Minto Armoury (969 St. Matthews Ave.). With 100+ vendors, there will be a HUGE selection of quality children’s items at fantastic prices. As always, admission is free. Show up early for best selection.

September 24 | Kitchen Kumite: Clash of Pans | 4 p.m.

This Sunday, some of Winnipeg’s top chefs will battle it out in the quarterfinals of this brand new Iron Chef-style cooking competition. The event will not only shine a spotlight on our local culinary talent, but also give the public an opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes in a professional kitchen. Best of all, proceeds from the event will support CancerCare Manitoba. The winners move on to the semifinals/finals on Oct. 1.

All weekend | Enjoy the great outdoors!

Take a stroll, hit up the St. Norbert Farmers’ Market, get lost at Amaze In Corn or pick the perfect pumpkin at Schwabe Pumpkins. Fall always seems to go too fast, so enjoy it while you can!
