Ballet in the Park: July 26, 27, 28

Get your blankets ready, Winnipeg.

Ballet In The Park is back at Assiniboine Park from July 26-28, with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet taking the Lyric Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

One of our city’s favourite summertime traditions since the early 1970s, this free family–friendly event attracts more than 20,000 people annually. With pre-show activities (face painting, contests and more!) and food trucks serving up everything from Fish & Chips to gelato, it’s a great way to spend a summer evening outside with family and friends. It’s also great introduction to ballet for those who have never seen it – picturesque setting included.

This year, the RWB school’s professional division students will be performing a pas de trois performance of The Fairy Doll and the recreational division students will be treating the audience to a Grease medley.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company dancers will be performing Lila York’s Celts. Choreographed in 1995, the year before the Riverdance phenomenon hit North America, Celts is an exuberant fusion of ballet, modern, classical, and Irish folk dance set to the music of pulse pounding and foot stomping rhythms of Celtic music.
