Get Your Fringe On: July 19-30About
It’s July in Winnipeg, and that means another year of Fringe Fest is upon us.
For 12 glorious days, we’ll have the very best of independent theatre in our own backyard, with more than 30 venues hosting 180 shows and more than 1,600 performances.
If you’ve ever been to Fringe, you know firsthand that the only thing to expect is the unexpected. If you’ve never been to Fringe, make this the year.
From solo acts to ensembles and improv comedy to unapologetic confessionals, there are bound to be at least a few shows that pique your interest. The new seven-show pass ($63) is a great way to get a taste of what the festival has to offer at a discounted rate. And for all you hardcore Fringers, not to worry: the Frequent Fringer pass is back, getting you 14 tickets for $123.
Even if theatre isn’t your thing, the atmosphere alone is worth a visit to the Exchange. Inclusive, upbeat and welcoming, it’s perfect for date night, family night or a night on the town.
With beer gardens, merchant vendors and street performers (don’t forget to show your gratitude when they “pass the hat!”), there’s plenty to do and plenty to see. With some choice restaurants in the area and a tasty selection of food trucks (including Habanero, Sombrero, Little Bones Wings and more), there’s also plenty to eat.
The Fringe also features a stellar music lineup, including noon-hour concerts and late night shows at Old Market Square. Some of this year’s local artists include Sebastian Owl, Dirty Catfish Brass Band, Andino Suns, Moon Tan, JD Edwards, The Noble Thiefs, Jess Reimer, The Middle Coast, Mama Cutsworth and more.
With the peak nights of summer upon us, there’s truly no better way to get out and soak up our city’s vibes. So head over to the Exchange, check out some shows and start recommending your faves. See you at the Fringe!
