Sun, Sand and Sam Roberts: MTS Super-Spike is BackAbout
Nothing says summer like hanging out with friends, working up a sweat and cracking a few cold ones. The MTS Super-Spike serves up plenty of each.
A combination of volleyball tournament and two-day concert series, the festival is the biggest of its kind in Western Canada and just gets bigger every year.
With more than 100 teams expected to register, the 2017 edition will feature music from the Sam Roberts Band, The Lytics, The Treble, Grandson, the Pernell Reichert Band, The Nobel Thiefs, The Reverend Rambler, The Dust Rhinos, and Electric Feel. As always, there will also be dancing, DJs and more at the banging Red Bull Beach Party.
As for the actual tournament, Super-Spike offers levels of volleyball for everyone. There are three different divisions: recreational, intermediate and competitive. There is also a Corporate Challenge Division, in which local businesses can register a team. Games will be played on the Friday between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., on the Saturday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.
And if your team gets eliminated early, it’s not like there’s nothing to do. In addition to the volleyball and the live music, there will great food and local vendors onsite.
But the best part of MTS Super-Spike may just be that it’s a not-for-profit event, with every dollar raised going to local charities. This year’s recipients will be Volleyball Manitoba, the True North Youth Foundation and KidSport Manitoba. So why not get some sun, have some fun and support a great cause?
