World Borscht Championships: Get Your Soup on For A Good CauseAbout
For decades, otherwise humble Winnipeggers have bragged, boasted and blustered about something they hold near and dear to their hearts: their family’s borscht recipes.
Next month it will be settled for once and for all. On Oct. 22, Little Brown Jug will host the World Borscht Championships. We’re talking simple beet borschts, non-traditional takes on borscht and everything in between.
Not surprisingly, the competitor spots for the inaugural event filled up fast. A (lucky!) panel of expert judges will pick the winner, who gets bragging rights as the first-ever World Borscht Champion and $100 cash. Oh, and a pretty sweet championship belt courtesy of organizer Ace Burpee.
This summer I decided to declare Winnipeg home to the World Borscht Championships. I feel this could become a huge thing for the city. Registration for the October 22nd event @littlebrownjugbrewing is FULL, and tix to the party are almost sold-out. ALL proceeds from the event go to @siloammission . Also… THERE IS A CHAMPIONSHIP BELT!!!Thanks to @vantagestudios @fresh_forage and Natural Bakery. Thanks @happylandprintshop for the dope shirt!
