You Can Watch the Jets' Home Opener Live at The CubeAbout
Christmas is still a few months away, but for many Winnipeggers Oct. 4 is just as important.
It’s the return of NHL hockey, and our Jets start their season at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But you don’t need tickets to have a good time watching it. Thanks to the Exchange District BIZ you’ll be able to see the Jets and Leafs live on a 15-foot screen at The Cube in Old Market Square. Just bring your chair, a blanket and your favourite Jets jersey.
The event will feature fire pits, popcorn, hot chocolate, 50/50 and prize giveaways including a one-night stay from Mere Hotel and gift cards. All proceeds from the event will go to KidSport Winnipeg.
It’s also worth getting down to The Exchange early. Prior to the game, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., there’ll be a hockey skills competition and tons of fun for the kiddies.
The game itself should be a beauty as well. With Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Patrik Laine, Nikolaj Ehlers and Big Buff back for another season, the Jets are stacked and expected to make some noise in the Western Conference.
On the other side you have reigning Rookie of the Year Auston Matthews alongside William Nylander, Mitch Marner and one of the best young lineups in all of hockey. Expect a lot of speed, a lot of skill and (hopefully) a lot of goals.
In fact, the last time the Jets and the Leafs met in Winnipeg this happened.
Puck drop is 6 p.m. Go Jets Go!.
