Diana's Cucina & Lounge: Gourmet Pizza Baked To Perfection
We’ve all been there. Sprawled across the couch with a heavy gut and greasy fingers, an empty pizza box in front of us.
The problem isn’t the pizza, says Diana Cline, five-time International Canadian Pizza Award winner and owner of Diana’s Cucina & Lounge. It’s the ingredients.
Known in St. Vital (and beyond) for its world-class za, Diana’s Cucina prides itself on using only ingredients you can pronounce. As Cline likes to put it, “We don’t use anything you won’t find in your grandma’s kitchen.”
From the dough and the sauce to the cheese and the toppings, it’s all natural and it’s all of the highest quality. The result is a symphony of fresh, healthy goodness and an evening free of couch-sprawling and a sore stomach (yes, the empty pizza box will still be there).
From Diana’s four types of dough (original, whole wheat, gluten-free and the award-winning Moosehead) to their savoury sauces (most notably the trademark marinara, made from crushed tomatoes and marinated for 24 hours with a secret blend of herbs and spices), every ingredient serves a purpose. No filler, no GMOS, no nonsense.
As for cheese, the low-fat mozzarella is just the beginning. You can also choose from cheddar, Monterey Jack, garlic n’ chive havarti, ripened crumbled goat cheese, dry crumbled feta, or a three-cheese blend, all of which are 100% dairy grade A Canadian. They even offer a dairy-free Daiya option.
What makes Diana’s use of natural ingredients even more impressive is that the selection doesn’t suffer. From traditional classics like the Ultimate Pepperoni and the Gourmet Hawaiian to unique creations like the Kung Pao Chicken, the Spicy Taco and the Trailer Park Boys-inspired Ricky’s Revenge (marinara, dry cured pepperoni, chicken fingers and jalapeno peppers loaded with extra mozza and sharp medium cheddar sprinkled with special herbs on a Moosehead beer crust), the menu features more than 25 pizzas and allows you to build your own.
But pizza is just the beginning. The restaurant also serves up golden brown panzerotti, fresh salads, tasty flatbreads and appetizers like oven-roasted chicken wings and a savoury sundried tomato spread. Oh, and whether you’re still hungry or want a midnight snack to go, they’ve perfected the dessert pizza (crushed Oreos, toasted marshmallows and vanilla icing, anyone?!).
Food aside (mouth-watering as it may be), the best thing about Diana’s is their “pizza your own way” philosophy. Whether you want to socialize in the lounge, people-watch on the patio or Netflix and nom, they’ve got you covered with their dine-in, delivery, pickup and take n’ bake options.
If reading this made you as hungry as writing it made us, it’s time for Diana’s. And it just so happens that We Heart Winnipeg cardholders get $5 any large regular-priced pizza. So what are you waiting for?
