Oh Doughnuts: A gourmet twist on traditional pastries
When Amanda Kinden began making her incomparable doughnuts back in September 2014 in a church kitchen, it didn’t take long for Winnipeg to fall in love with her unique pastries. Nearly one year later, Oh Doughnuts opened the doors to its Broadway shop and a rev-Oh-lution was born.
Over the past few years, Amanda has continued to test the boundaries of traditional doughnut flavours – and so far, she has yet to make a creation that her customers haven’t loved. From the savoury Everything Bagel to the sweet Butter Tart Cheesecake, the wild menu features some truly unique tastes and rotates regularly.
Some of the fastest-selling flavours are crème brulee, any cheesecake flavour (blueberry and Oreo, to name a few) and the ever-popular Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwiches, which feature locally-made Cornell Cream. And yes, it’s just as dreamy as it sounds. Go get you one.
One of the most unique things about Oh Doughnuts is that each day they have a huge variety of vegan and gluten-free options available. From Dulce de Leche with Dark Chocolate and Cookies and Cream to Coffee Crisp and Raspberry Vanilla, there’s truly something for every sweet tooth – no matter what dietary restrictions you may have.
Also among the many uber-cool things that Oh Doughnuts is known for is how passionate they are about localism and sustainability. To make her gourmet doughnuts each day, Amanda uses organic flour, organic eggs, local butter, fair trade and organic cocoa and chocolate, and local ice cream. The result is a pastry that’s light, pillowy and great for the planet — and for the local economy.
