Pho-Yo: Fresh and authentic Vietnamese food
There are few cravings as wild and relentless as a hankering for Vietnamese food. What’s not welcome, however, is the bloated feeling that occurs afterwards, all thanks to added MSG that’s traditionally included in a lot of Asian menu items.
Luckily for Winnipeggers, Huy Dang, owner and chef at Pho-Yo, offers all of your favourite Vietnamese classics without the bad stuff.
The restaurant, which opened in Old St. Vital in spring 2016, serves up a mighty pho, which we think is arguably one of the most delicious in the city.
Pho (pronounced fuh), is served with beef or chicken, rice noodles, sliced onion, green onion, red onion, and cilantro, and garnished with bean sprouts, Thai basil, chili peppers or jalapenos and lime wedges. With ingredients as fresh as those, Huy knows there’s no need for the extras.
While the savoury noodle soup is Pho-Yo’s specialty, they offer a stellar list of starters and mains. Huy set up his main courses as a “Choose Your Own Adventure” so customers can get exactly what they’re craving.
First, you pick your base: a salad bowl, a vermicelli noodle bowl, a Bun Mee (Vietnamese sub), or a rice plate. Next, you pick your protein from a huge selection of chicken, beef, pork, shrimp and vegan options. All are fresh, filling and delicious.
